Yet we can not heal nor affect positive change by giving into the urge to become apathetic to the world around us. Mickey Mouse exemplifies passion, honesty, happy, friendly, optimism. Mickey is a positive influence on our culture.
Shanoor is demonstrating the expression on Micky’s face, how we are constantly being forced to fight social justice and how negative forces are looking to destroy our freedom. Only in confronting difficult topics and painful histories head on, by staying vigilant in our quest for truth and uncompromising in our search for justice, may we collectively heal. By placing the beloved character Mickey Mouse caught between the crosshairs of a firearm, the artist challenges the viewer in the hopes of waking us out of a state of complacency.
