Inspired by the rich beauty of the art of ballet, the subject of this painting becomes both an ode to the unimaginable sacrifice of dancers whose dedication keeps the tradition alive and an homage to the joy experienced by the audience. The dancer’s shoes reside at the base of a heart shaped form whose center is composed of a single eye that stares back at us, forging the connective tissue between artist and observer— a symbiotic relationship epitomized through subtle imagery that recognizes and honors the sacrifice of the creative bodies whose sacrifice enriches our lives in ways we so often take for granted.
